The Byrd Bath process has started and the Senate Democrats have already scored a big win. The Byrd -Bad is a process in which the legal legislation is submitted to parliamentarians if the legislation follows the rules for the reconciliation process. Democrats have brought more than 60 challenges against documents of legislation.
If the parliamentary rules that part of the tax cuts do not meet the rules for reconciliation for the rich account, the basic rule is that all parts of the account must be budget -related; The non-related parts must be removed.
House republicans tried to use the tax reduction to kill the CFPB.
Senate Democrats challenged the provision and they won.
Senate minority leader Senator Chuck Schumer said in a statement:
Senate -Republicans just tried to eliminate the Bureau for Financial Protection of Consumers – and Senate Democrats stopped them.
Senate Democrats came up for common sense and for the millions of Americans who rely on strong consumer protection. We are not ready yet – and we continue to fight against this “large, beautiful betrayal” such as hell to protect American families, not billionaires and large companies.
Let’s be clear: the CFPB has sent more than $ 21 billion back to American consumers by keeping large banks and predatory lenders responsible. The attempt by the Republicans to intestine was nothing more than a gift to the rich and well connected, at the expense of working families.
Democrats will win some of these challenges, and they will dismiss some bad parts of this bill, and one of the documents that I suspect it will be gone is the provision that in fact allows Trump to ignore judicial orders. The provisions involving the courts have nothing to do with the budget, so they should not be in the bill.
Most provisions of the banking committee in the legislation were thrown out of the bill.
The problem with the house that passes a wish list of 1,100 pages to get enough voices to squeak through is that much of this mess had nothing to do with the budget. There will be many changes in this account before it goes back to the house, and whether it can survive, will determine the fate of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”.
What do you think of Senate Democrats who save the CFPB? Let’s discuss it in the comments below.
