As more women come forward claiming a wide range of sexual misconduct committed by Representative Eric Swalwell, The California congressman’s gubernatorial campaign collapsed and he will face an expulsion vote in the House of Representatives this week.
Senator Reuben Gallego (D-AZ) was a supporter of Swalwell and a friend, but he immediately withdrew his support when the allegations became public.
Gallego has now called on the House to expel Swalwell.
Senator Gallego posted on X:
I support the Ethics Committee’s investigation and believe that Eric Swalwell is no longer fit to serve in Congress. He should be expelled from Congress.
I want to be clear: I was not aware of the allegations of assault, harassment and predatory behavior against Eric Swalwell.
I trusted someone I thought was a friend, but it’s now clear he’s not the person I thought I knew.
The women who have come forward have shown courage. They deserve to be believed, supported and to see justice.
Gallego’s name has been floated as a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate, so he’s probably thinking about his own political future to some extent, but it’s also clear that many Democrats were unaware of the allegations against Swalwell.
Eric Swalwell’s accusations did not come out of the blue, as you will see below.
