Rep. Clay Fuller (R-Ga.), who recently won a special election to replace the late Marjorie Taylor Greene, appears to have inherited her talent for newsmaking. And not always the good kind. (Watch the video below.)
In a rant (or major troll job) on He also incorrectly referred to Maryland as “newer to the union” (it is one of the thirteen original colonies) and appeared to taunt the University of Maryland for never having won an SEC title (it is a member of the Big Ten conference after many years in the ACC) and for not having a football team at all (it does).
He also said that if University of Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton were born in Maryland, “he would be playing a fake sport like lacrosse.”
Fuller became agitated when he woke up in a Maryland hotel room that he said was too hot. He said he was then informed by the front desk that the motion sensor air conditioning had been turned off at night “because of an AOC Green New Deal thing.” While there may be talk of a hotel or regional policy, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s environmental initiative never passed.
Fuller emphasized Georgia’s superiority and freedom in his complaint to perhaps argue why the AC is always on in inns in the Peach State. (Apparently not true.)
“AC has saved billions of lives,” he said. “Socialism has killed billions of lives. So as we celebrate our 250th anniversary, let’s not be like Europe, Maryland. Let’s double our freedom… and let’s double our awesomeness.”
A spokesperson told USA Today on Monday that the clip “obviously satirical“, but we did some research anyway. Some hotels use motion detectors to control AC use – to turn them off or return to a standard temperature when someone is not in the room or perhaps when the guest is sleeping.
It turns out that at least one hotel in Fuller’s own Georgia is also using sensors. The Holiday Inn Express in Lavonia said it, like others in the IHG hotel family that includes Crowne Plaza and Kimpton, uses motion sensors to “save energy.” (HuffPost has contacted IHG for confirmation.)
The Lavonia hotel will maintain the standard temperature of 70 degrees, the employee said, and guests can have that restriction lifted. Fuller, who did not reveal where he was staying in the video, said his hotel also allowed him to change the setting.
As for the multitude of his other apparent errors (which appear to be just bad jokes), we are contacting Fuller’s office for comment.
