The massive multibillion-dollar fraud allegedly perpetrated by Somalis in Minnesota continues to be scrutinized by broadcast networks in favor of performative outrage over President Donald Trump’s statements during public events discrediting Somalis and Somalia.
Early in the week, NewsBusters’ Curtis Houck found that ABC and NBC only touched on the Minnesota fraud in 21% of their Somali coverage. The vast majority of the verbiage consisted of negative evaluations of Trump. Add CBS and the fraud rate rose to 31%, in part because “Face The Nation” host Margaret Brennan interviewed Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar about it.
First, Brennan dragged out the “no evidence” issue with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent about taxpayer money going to Somalis. terrorist group al-Shabaab: “You have no evidence that that money is being used to fuel terrorism, as some conservative writers claim?” Bessent said an investigation is underway, but tagged Omar: “Rep. Omar tried to downplay it… said… it was very difficult to know how to use this money. She was fooling the American people.”
When Omar arrived on set, Brennan brought Bessent’s comments to her: “He alleged that people associated with you or your campaign were involved in this broad, brazen scheme to depose Minnesota’s state health care system. Would you like to respond to that? Do you know what he’s referring to?’ Omar lied and said, “No way, and I don’t think the secretary himself understands what he’s talking about.”
BROADCAST BIAS: NETWORKS DESTROY TRUMP ‘TIRADE’ BUT NOT $1BILLION SOMALI SCAM ROCKING MINNESOTA

Brennan could have found it easily New York Post report that underlined the connections, including Salim Ahmed Said, the co-owner of Safari Restaurant, where Omar held her 2018 Congress victory party. Said was found guilty in August of stealing more than $12 million in COVID-19 funds. In 2020, Omar appeared on video at Safari to praise the (fraudulent) feeding program.
Then consider that Guhaad Hashi Said worked on Omar’s 2018 and 2020 campaigns and oversaw Somali voter turnout. He also pleaded guilty in August to running a fake food site called Advance Youth Athletic Development, where he falsely claimed to serve 5,000 meals a day and take $3.2 million from the food program.
Why can’t Brennan use Google and prepare? Can she regret that there is no evidence for the Omar story because she refused to look for it?
MINNESOTA FRAUD SCANDAL WAS ‘SHOCKING EASY’ TO EXECUTE, IS PROBABLY WORSE THAN REPORTED: EX Prosecutor
Coverage of Somalia spiked again when Trump held a rally in Pennsylvania, where he mocked what he called “shit-hole countries.” On ABC, Mary Bruce claimed that “his comments repeatedly veered off topic into vicious attacks for more than 90 minutes last night.” Then she repeated, “Trump launched vicious attacks on Somali immigrants, calling them lazy and trash and continued to go after Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, who is a naturalized U.S. citizen” in his “anti-immigrant tirade.”
On ABC’s “The View,” after Trump joked that we should import some people from Norway instead of Somalia, Joy Behar said, “Can we just talk about the blatant racism?” What is the difference between Somalia and Norway? Hello. I mean, it’s so obvious that it is, and he doesn’t even try to disguise it.”
She, like most leftists, could only think about race, and not about how Norway and Somalia would measure up as countries on the success meter. Liberals argue that you can’t bash a country, but if you question migrants coming in en masse, they should stay because they come from a really bad place.

“CBS Evening News” reporter Nancy Cordes reported his comments, pitting Virginia Democrat Sen. Mark Warner for calling Trump “racist.” Republican Chairman Mike Johnson said he would not use those terms, but Trump expressed frustration with immigrants who refuse to assimilate.
On the “PBS News Hour,” their online headline read: “Trump’s Affordability Speech Turns into Anti-Immigrant Tirade.” Co-host Amna Nawaz showed a clip of Trump and then pressed Republican Tiffany Smiley: “Tiffany, he also called other countries, including Afghanistan and Somalia, hellholes. This was billed as a speech about affordability. Is this what voters want to hear now?” In this case, it was unusual for PBS to allow a Republican to celebrate how Trump secured the border as he promised. Nawaz then called on Democrat Ameshia Cross to denounce Trump as a segregationist.

“Objective” reporters use words like “rant” and “tirade” to describe Trump’s speeches. But when former President Joe Biden went to Philadelphia in 2022 and launched a tirade against equality and democracy being threatened by “MAGA extremists,” they celebrated his passion. Railing against Trump sounds like idealism to them.
In contrast, when Trump makes idealistic comments about America, they refuse to deviate from their ongoing cartoon that everything he says can be portrayed as the immature outbursts of a racist bully on steroids.
