September 25 (Reuters) – Chichester City Forward and former Arsenal Academy player Billy Vigar, 21, died on Thursday morning after a considerable brain injury during a Isthmic league match in Wingate & Finchley on Saturday.
According to the semi-professional club, Vigar was placed in an induced coma after the injury on the field, and an operation on Tuesday was aimed at helping his recovery. However, the efforts turned out not to be too successful and he died on Thursday.
“Our deepest condolences go to the Vigar family and his many friends in this extremely difficult time,” Arsenal said in a statement. “Fast, powerful and fiercely determined … Everyone at Arsenal Football Club is very regretted that it hears the tragic death.”
Vigar, a former Arsenal Academy player, joined the 2020/21 season full-time. He later spent time on loan with Derby County’s Under-21s and Eastbourne Borough before he came to Hastings United with a free transfer in 2024. He signed for Chichester City last month.
