Austin, Texas – Olympic champion Gabby Thomas will miss this month’s track World Championships with an Achilles tendon injury that she has had to deal with since May.
Thomas, the American that won the 200-meter sprint in Paris And was on both the 4×100 and the 4×400 meters of gold medal relay teams, said she made the injury worse in July.
“I understand that for some track fans it will be disappointing to hear this news, but I finally realized that it is OK to be human and to take care of myself,” said Thomas sent in a statement sent on Tuesday to announce the news.
The world championships run from 13-21 September in Tokyo.
