There seems to be some confusion in our society lately about what “civil disobedience” is and what it is not. Last week, this confusion caused the death of 37-year-old Renee Good.
Political protest in the form of civil disobedience has a long and very proud tradition, from Mahatma Gandhi who nonviolently challenged the British in India, to our own Martin Luther King Jr. who wrote his eloquence from a prison cell in Birmingham.
There is a stoic dignity in this practice, which in itself lends a seriousness and deep humility to the words of its practitioners.
What we are seeing across the country as organized gangs of wine moms use Antifa tactics to harass and obstruct Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers is not civil disobedience. It’s not even a protest. It’s just crime.
MINNEAPOLIS ICE SHOOTING OFFICER TOOK TRAINING BECAUSE A POSSIBLE ‘LETHAL THREAT’ WAS DRIVEN TO HIM: FORMER COPY
The word “civil” in civil disobedience refers to the fact that the demonstrators allow themselves to be arrested to emphasize how important their cause is to them. It is also generally done in a context that threatens minimal harm to police and bystanders.
Today, across the country, but especially in strongholds of democratic socialism like Minneapolis, Portland, and Seattle, we are seeing something very different: groups of people following, harassing, doxxing, and sometimes directly attacking ICE agents.
What these ICE Watch groups across the country, of which Good was reportedly a trained member, are doing is very different. They are trying to stop federal agents from enforcing democratically enacted laws without sending a message, and more importantly, they are trying to evade capture.
NOEM commends DHS officers on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day as attacks on federal agents increase nationwide
Sorry, that’s a crime, not a protest.
Furthermore, we must ask very seriously whether groups of people who train and then carry out missions that endanger law enforcement and the public may in fact be criminal conspirators.
If your job is to look out for a street drug trade in the neighborhood, that’s a crime. It is not entirely clear why doing the same to protect illegal immigrants, many of whom are vicious criminals, is not a comparable activity.
ANTI-ICE WORKERS THREATEN AGENTS IN CHAOTIC MINNESOTA PROTESTS: ‘YOU’RE GOING TO DIE’
According to a recent poll, only 24% of Americans believe it is acceptable to go beyond peaceful protest in response to ICE enforcement. But among white women ages 18 to 44, that number jumps to an astonishing 61%.
Maybe they listen to too many true crime podcasts, but we have to ask ourselves: How on earth did this become acceptable behavior in our society?
The short answer is that for most of this century, our law enforcement agencies and courts have simply allowed this to happen. They’ve decided that some criminal activity is fine, as long as your cause is just.
ICE OFFICER WHO SHOT WOMAN IN MINNESOTA WAS SLAUGHT BY ILLEGAL ALIEN SEX OFFENDER’S CAR MONTHS EARLIER
This often starts with violations of the law that border on foolishness, like throwing a Subway sandwich at a cop, but then the sandwich becomes a snowball, then a lock, and before you know it, people are hitting federal agents with SUVs.
The video of Good and her partner harassing and, let’s face it, goading ICE agents with an obnoxious smugness that would make most people’s skin crawl is just one of many.
We see these self-righteous white women doing it in video after video after video, mocking police, insulting journalists, or even bystanders, often with a strange and disturbing glee.
DEM STORY CHALLENGED AFTER DHS USED IDENTITY OF ‘MARRIED COUPLE’ IN CBP-RELATED SHOOTINGS
Let’s be clear: this happens because we make it happen. Where I live in West Virginia, if I saw that a state trooper had pulled over a friend of mine and decided to throw things at the officer, I would be rightfully arrested. So why are the rules different if you’re against ICE?

The responsible thing every Democrat in politics and in the media must do today and now is tell their audience that it is never okay to assault a cop, that it is never okay to obstruct a federal investigation, and that they must stop it.

Instead, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., stood up to a Minnesota crowd on Friday from the back of a pickup truck and said, “You have all been pushing that this resistance is not something that can be intimidated.” If she was referring to using cars to thwart federal agents, as she appeared to be doing, then that is simply a call for insurrection.
CHAD WOLF, COOPER SMITH: MAYOR FREY, ICE DOES NOT SOW CHAOS. YOU ARE. PLEASE REDUCE
In fact, there are good reasons to believe that anyone who said that shouldn’t be in Congress.
Unfortunately, Democrats will not do the responsible thing even if they protect their own supporters like Good who should still be alive today.
No, there is only one answer here; enforcing the law.

And here’s my warning: If we don’t enforce the law, if we simply allow these cosplaying so-called revolutionaries to do whatever they want, including hitting cops with cars, Renee Good won’t be the last to die needlessly.
This madness must end, and it must end now.
