On September 30, the office of the Philadelphia of Immigrantenzaken is planning to hoist the red flag with the star of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in front of the town hall to celebrate the birthday of the establishment of the CCP.
You may think this is a kind of sick joke, but no. It is not even the first; The city of Brotherly Appeasement has flown the CCP flag twice before (in 2017 and 2019). It was a shame then and it is now a shame. All residents of the city must reject the leadership of the Philadelphia campaign in order to betray our foundation principles for virtue signal tolerance and diversity – a demonstration of weakness that China is only too happy to operate.
In Philadelphia we hoist many things, especially cheesesteaks, super bowl flags and occasionally ourselves on greased street lamppales in moments of a party. Historically, Philadelphians jubilantly lifted the first printed copies of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution Vers of the press of John Dunlap. All of these rowing wore more than a small air of resistance to the type of authoritarianism represented by the CCP.

But while we are preparing to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation next year, that typical spirit of 1776 seems to be in danger. Communist China originated under President Xi Jinping as the opposite of everything that Philadelphia has traditionally represented. The CCP is increasingly recognized as the greatest threat to national security for the United States in the 21st century.

The proposed event is sponsored by the Pennsylvania United Chinese Coalition, which is part of a network of such organizations that try to increase the reputation and reach of the CCP in the US under the guise of cultural exchange. But their website also reveals their avid opposition against Taiwan’s independence and their dedication to “peaceful” Cross-Strait Unification.

The flag collection is justified as a demonstration of support for the strong and lively Chinese community of Philadelphia, but that is not something. The city already has suitable celebrations for the Chinese Philadelphians, in particular the Lantern Festival that emphasizes traditional culture that has become so popular that it is now an annual event that benefits the maintenance of Philadelphia.

In fact, many Chinese Americans are in Philadelphia because they wanted the freedom and opportunities to be refused by the CCP. Very little of such individuals seem to have a lot of interest in celebrating the regime that persecuted them, let alone returning to China. This flag collection is at best a veiled insult to them and in the worst case a hair -raising memory that the CCP is here in the city where they have found refuge.
The fact that increasing the CCP flag has happened earlier is no reason to re -do this year of all years. Whatever hope has been for cultural or economic exchange in the past, we cannot accommodate such illusions about what such outreach from China now means.

Less than a mile of the Town Hall of the Proposed CCP flag collection-Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag in a small house to Arch Street, legendary at the direct request of George Washington. The stars and stripes were then taken over by the emerging United States on June 14, 1777 and were proudly flown during the revolutionary war that brought us our independence. Almost adjacent to the Huis van Betsy Ross is the place of the Dunlap press that distributed the declaration of independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1788.
At this critical moment in the history of America we both approach our semiquinccentage (we can learn just as well that now to pronounce) and we get a grip on the threat that China is for us. Instead of contaminating this holy soil, this birthplace of Liberty, by bending the knee to Beijing, would do the office of immigrant affairs of Philadelphia much better to reject any request to collect a primordial symbol of communist suppression and, instead, collect all Philadelphians for a celebration of that timeline.
