But Lougananis, who won four gold medals and a silver from 1976 to 1988, had a more philosophical message than a political one.
“So, if life goes ahead, what are you willing to leave behind?” Lougananis wrote on Facebook Friday. “I am 65 years old, and I ask exactly. I am no longer who I thought I was. Not even close to ‘what’ other people or ‘who’ other people think I am.”
After throwing shadow to his business managers and praise to his former coach, Ron O’Brien, Lougananis added:
“Now I get to discover who Greg Lougananis is? Without the distraction and noise from outside. At least this is my goal, and hey, I may not think that. I think I can sometimes find it, in moments, my goal is to live! Discover, allow and cherish that human spirit through the experiences of the life.
He also said he was inspired by the resilience of good friends who lost everything in recent fires in California and could start again.
