America loves President Trump and the Republican Party on all major issues, according to one major poll, the Harvard-Harris CAPS poll, chaired by a former adviser to President Clinton, Mark Penn, who is most certainly a moderate Democrat, and not a crazy one. This is a respected poll. Of the 2,745 registered voters surveyed, 977 were Republicans, 984 Democrats and 785 Independents. So it’s 50-50.
What’s interesting about this poll is that it picks up the most important issues and agrees with many other polls. Affordability, the economy, immigration, healthcare, Iran, etc. However, where it differs from many other polls and left-wing press coverage is that while some people may blame Republicans, they blame Democrats more for all major issues.
Let’s start with Iran. 74 percent of voters believe the US is currently winning in Iran. Virtually every press organization tells us that Iran is winning, believe it or not. Then the poll continues: 74 percent believe Iran should be prevented from obtaining nuclear weapons. About 66 percent want Trump to insist on all key terms in any negotiation. And 57 percent approve of the blockade. There is a warning here for the Democrats, because as Chairman Newt Gingrich has said, the Democrats have become the pro-Iran party. Not a good place to be. And as I have said many times, Iran will be a soft issue in the midterm elections.
Panelists Mark Penn and Reince Priebus discuss American perceptions of the American economy during the Iran War on “Kudlow.”
Now about the economy: people are very concerned about prices and affordability. I got it. However, if you ask them who you trust more to run the economy, the answers are: Mr. Trump and the Republicans 53 percent, the Democrats 47 percent. That’s a six-point deficit.
Normally a typical news agency, I don’t care if it’s the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times or the Washington Post. All old leftists. The typical news desk will assume that because affordability is a problem, it is Trump’s fault. No. People have even less confidence in Democrats.
Here’s another point: open borders. On this issue, 58 percent think Democrats are in favor of open borders. Here’s another one. Voter ID. About 65 percent of respondents think Democrats oppose voter ID requirements. And they really like that Republicans are in favor of voter identification in order to vote. Here’s another one. In the race for Congress, you would think the Democrats would have a ten-point lead, given the press coverage day in and day out. Wrong. The Harvard Harris poll shows a 50-50 score, which historically could mean the Republican Party has a big lead, as polls over the years have taken about six points off the final Republican tally.
As I always say, polls are not votes. Only votes are votes. I will also say that the press reporting is not fair. It is heavily biased against Mr. Trump and the Republican party. And I would add that most public press-sponsored polls are heavily biased against Mr. Trump and the Republican Party. The Harvard Harris poll is the exception and there are other exceptions, but I believe the country is very much behind Trump. And there will be a big surprise in November.
