Since New York City is confronted with an unprecedented increase in anti -Semitism, in which Jewish residents experience the highest levels of hatred and violence in decades, every chosen officer and candidate must be held responsible for their dedication to protect all voters. This includes the Democratic mayor candidate Zohran Mamdani, whose statements from the past and associations raise serious questions about his dedication to Jewish security and safety.
The data paints a grim image. The State New York had a record of 1,437 anti -Semitic incidents in 2024 – an increase of 18 percent compared to 2023 and the highest number of each state in the nation. Still alarming, anti -Semitic attacks in New York rose by 52 percent in 2024, good for almost a third of all national anti -Semitic attacks.
This is not just about statistics – it’s about real people who live in fear. This is a 12-year-old who is being bullied in a high school in Queens, or an orthodox pair that is harassed in broad daylight in Brooklyn. It is a group of Jewish students who are stuck in a library with a crowd that screams against them and bangs on the windows. Jewish New Yorkers are harassed and focused on synagogues, schools, universities, companies and on the street.
Stopantisemitism Founder warns Mamdani as a NYC mayor would be ‘catastrophic’ for residents
Against this background, Mamdani’s former embrace of inflammatory rhetoric and support for radical anti-Israeli groups makes insight into his dedication to Jewish safety even more important. As a student, he founded the chapter of the students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Bowdoin College. It is one of the most radical groups at university campuses in America. As an assembly member, he sponsored the “Not on Our Dime Act” who tried to prevent New York from sending donations to Israel donations to “finance war crimes”. This included needs such as ambulance services, emergency aid, food security and more.
Recently the failure of Mamdani is to condemn hymns of “Globalize the Intifada” – a slogan that is nothing less than a call for random violence against Israel, Jews and Jewish communities worldwide – raises fundamental questions about his dedication to Jewish security. He had several opportunities in recent weeks, including meeting the Pershost Kristen Welker, to clarify his attitude. Mamdani did not swing and missed; He even refused to remove the bat from his shoulder and try to hit the field.
But the worries have now evolved much further than just a clear explanation of violence. Every candidate for mayor must explain the Jewish community and to all residents of New York City what specific steps they will take to curb rising anti -Semitism and hatred – and what measures they will not take to not endanger the controversial Jewish community in a time that is already faltering.
We should ask a number of important questions and demanding public answers from the candidates instead of private rusts. For example:
- Will they not promise not to appoint radicals to their administration, individuals with a track record of anti -Semitism, extremism or hatred that would bring an agenda to their offices that could harm Jewish New Yorkers? Use Mamdani as an example – he has already collaborated with people who have embraced toxic anti -Semitism and hatred. He would have a deep relationship with Linda Sarsour, a very controversial figure for her flagrant anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism. Mamdani himself identifies himself as a democratic socialist who received the approval of the explicit anti-Israel and anti-Zionist democratic socialists from America, who has a long and disturbing state of back-leaders with anti-Semitic histories.
- Will they provide NYPD protection for all the houses of worship, including synagogues that show Israeli flags? Jewish institutions in New York have had to deal with hundreds of bomb threats and anti -Semitic attacks in recent years. Every officer chosen must be committed to protecting all religious spaces, regardless of his political symbols or preferences.
- Will they offer NYPD to act as safety for Jewish community events, including fundraisers for organizations that support Israeli humanitarian causes such as ambulance services? The right to a peaceful meeting and giving charity is fundamentally for American democracy. Jewish organizations that raise money for medical services must be given the same protection as any other community group.
- Will they commit to ensuring that students from the public schools in New York City are not incorrectly trained with false information or poisoned by politics about the Middle East, let alone an anti-American agenda? We have seen ethnic studies in classrooms throughout the country at the expense of Jewish students. Ethnic studies often promote poisonous anti-zionist ideas that alienate Jewish students, which isolate Israeli students and expose children to a biased, crooked worldview. Teachers must teach the basic principles, do not use a classroom as a laboratory for indoctrination and radicalism.
- Will they ensure that the town hall and the government spaces are only organizations of organizations that are free from terror bands?
To be clear, these are not unreasonable requests – they are basic expectations for every official but relevant on the basis of previous associations, positions and explanations.

At the same time, responsibility is not only on Mamdani. There are many candidates in this mayor race. We expect them to support the Jewish community.
Anti -Semitism is not an abstraction – it is a clear and present danger for Jewish Americans. In recent months we have seen it manifest it in very threatening ways in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC and Boulder, Colorado.

In the light of these very real acts of violence, we need a mayor who in deed, not only in word, how they will prevent the bedlam from spreading to New York and how they will protect Jewish New Yorkers, taking into account their single series of challenges and doing this with the same degree of care and respect that are shown to all other New Yorkers.
The Jewish community – and all New Yorkers who appreciate tolerance and safety – are clear, unambiguous answers.
