The Democrats on the House Oversight Committee saw their opportunity and seized it.
Another way to look at the situation is that Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer’s (R-KY) insistence on trying to transfer Trump’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein to the Clintons is the gift that keeps on giving.
Following Hillary Clinton’s statement, House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Robert Garcia (D-CA) began his remarks by talking about Clinton and her being impeached.
Garcia said:
I want to start by clarifying and emphasizing something that is very important, and it is something that the Secretary himself said. Secretary Clinton never met Jeffrey Epstein. She never visited the island. She never flew on his plane, nor did she have any knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein’s heinous crime.
So without knowledge of any wrongdoing, and you have also all heard that Clinton directly from her Secretary Clinton is also fully cooperating with the impeachment and the committee, answering questions in complete confidence and good faith, what is not acceptable is for oversight Republicans to violate their own committee rules that they established with the Secretary and her team.
You have all reported seeing it through the release of photos that are not acceptable, and it was kind of the Secretary and her team to continue with the statement.
Rep. Garcia made the connection between Republicans going after someone who had no connection to Epstein to cover up someone who certainly did.
