Less than a month after the welcome of his first cruise passengers, two Americans died in drowning incidents on the new, private island of Carnival in the Bahamas.
A 79-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman were reportedly died in separate incidents on Friday on a ‘private tourist destination’, said the police of Royal Bahamas in a Facebook message.
First Responders was told that the man “did not respond while snorkeling on a beach.” He was pulled out of the water by a lifeguard and received resuscitation, but did not survive.
The woman “was not reacting while swimming in a swimming pool,” the police said. She was helped out of the water and given resuscitation by a lifeguard, but did not make it.

Autopsies are carried out as part of the investigation into what happened.

“A guest was sailing with family on Mardi Gras and a guest sailed with family on carnival elation,” said Carnival spokesperson. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the guests and their families and our care team offers help.”
Celebration Key welcomed his first cruise guests on July 19. The destination of $ 600 million has a 10-storey sand castle, “two thrilling racing watersides”, a shopping village, a basketball court and a “only retreat for adults,” said Carnival in a press release from the opening day.

“Celebration Key will initially bring more than two million guests to Grand Bahama a year,” said it. “By 2028 this number is expected to grow to four million. The economic impact for Grand Bahama is considerable, with hundreds of long -term ranes created by daily activities. The destination has an adjacent cruise pier that is able to house two of the largest ships in Carnival at the same time.
