Trailer for ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’
The trailer for the trailer for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt. Directed by David Frankel.
Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway are back to pose.
The two Oscar-winning actresses reprise their roles in the sequel to the hit 2006 fashion drama, “The Devil Wears Prada,” an adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s novel inspired by her time as a personal assistant to famed Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
Hathaway returns as Andrea “Andy” Sachs, now an award-winning journalist at New York Vanguard who has spread her wings since leaving Runway Magazine at the end of the first film. Unlike the Andy Sachs we met when she first joined Runway, the new Andy is confident and stylish, yet retains her charm and humility. But life comes to a standstill when she and her colleagues learn that everyone at the newspaper has been fired due to a $500 million write-down by the parent company.
‘MICHAEL’ REVIEW: A HOLLOW INFOMERCIAL PACKAGED AS A BIOPIC OF THE KING OF POP

Meanwhile, Streep revives her Wintour-esque Miranda Priestly, the Runway editor-in-chief who is about to be promoted to global head of content by Irv Ravitz (Tibor Feldman), CEO of the parent company, and his son Jay (BJ Novak). But plans are thrown into disarray when Runway becomes embroiled in a sweatshop scandal.
The Ravitzs are desperate to defuse the PR crisis and restore the magazine’s credibility — hence their hefty job offer for Andy to become Runway’s new editor-in-chief.
Miranda is blindsided by the hiring decision and must be immediately reminded who Andy is upon arrival. Andy receives a less than warm welcome from Miranda, who quickly tells her, “You will fail.” Old habits die hard at Runway.

Although Andy and Miranda are once again at odds, they both must grapple with the ever-changing media landscape between the demise of print magazines and the way multibillion-dollar conglomerates increasingly dictate whether publications survive or disappear.
Returning for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” are the snarky but friendly Nigel (Stanley Tucci), Miranda’s right-hand man who quietly supports Andy’s success, and the snobbish but stoic Emily (Emily Blunt), Miranda’s now former assistant who has since landed a top position at Dior, something she can leverage in the midst of Miranda’s sweatshop fiasco.

One of the film’s best moments involves Miranda struggling to adapt to modern norms, like not abusing her staff (she has to hang up her own coat?!) and reining in her not-so-PC language during editorial meetings. But the rest is kind of boring and bloated.
“Prada 2” introduces new characters who don’t have much to offer, like Miranda’s new husband Stuart (Kenneth Branaugh) and Andy’s new love interest Peter (Patrick Brammall – the invite to Adrian Grenier’s Nate from the first film must have been lost in the mail). Lucy Liu joins the cast as the wealthy, cloistered ex-wife of an eccentric tech billionaire (played by Justin Theroux) and is considered the “holy grail” of interviews that Andy can book. Plus, there’s a slew of new Runway staffers that Andy meets, as well as several cameos – but not Sydney Sweeney as was widely reported.

Hathaway can reliably play a down-to-earth protagonist, except Andy doesn’t have nearly the satisfying character arc she went through in the first film. The same goes for Streep, who notably earned an Oscar nomination for her role as Miranda Priestly. While it is by far the funniest role in “Prada 2,” it also doesn’t feel fresh like it did 20 years ago.
What “Prada 2” lacks in substance, it makes up for in style with David Frankel’s chic direction and smooth editing by Andrew Marcus. And of course, a special shout out goes to costume designer Molly Rogers, who previously won an Emmy for her work on ‘Sex and the City’. I’m certainly no fashionista, but even I can appreciate the beautiful wardrobe that the film showcases virtually from start to finish.
‘THE DRAMA’ REVIEW: ROBERT PATTINSON, ZENDAYA STAR AS DAWNS FACED FULL TURMOIL IN TWISTED DARK ROM-COM

The verdict
Did we need a sequel to ‘Devil Wears Prada’? No. While it doesn’t have the same staying power as its predecessor, there’s enough here to make “Prada 2” work – or should I say runway of. This is an ideal watch for a short flight, but its purpose doesn’t go much further than that.
