Mazda’s CX-90 is under federal investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after a recent recall may have failed to fix a steering problem.
The NHTSA launched its investigation after receiving 26 reports of sudden changes in steering problems, a phenomenon it describes as “sticky steering.” Mazda had recalled 44,000 CX-90s in January 2024 in the hope of fixing similar steering problems.
The NHTSA says each of the 26 reports came from vehicles that had undergone the initial recall maintenance. The problem is related to at least two crashes.
“After receiving recall 24V022, consumers are reporting a sudden increase in steering effort while driving. A sudden and unexpected change in steering effort while driving may increase the risk of a crash,” the NHTSA wrote in its announcement.
