An Australian high school teacher has pleaded guilty in a New South Wales court to sexually assaulting a teenage boy on multiple occasions near Newcastle, reports have revealed.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported that 37-year-old Karly Rae, who became a mother almost eight weeks ago, pleaded guilty to sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old boy in October 2024, possessing child pornography, preparing a child for unlawful sexual activity and committing an act with intent to pervert the course of justice.
Rae initially pleaded not guilty to the charges in May, but changed her plea last month.
Her lawyer, Mark Ramsland, is said to have urged the courts to prioritize her case because she appeared in court with her eight-week-old baby.

Court documents obtained by the station show that Rae and the 15-year-old communicated on social media and that the crimes she was accused of occurred in the suburbs of Bolton Point, Merewether and Belmont.
The police evidence presented in court included messages between Rae and the teenager on platforms such as Snapchat and Instagram.
“Hey, sorry for removing you from Snap,” Rae reportedly told the teen. “I thought it was too tempting for the time being.”

“It’s my fault,” she replied. “I take full responsibility. Do what you want/need.”
In another message reported by the station, Rae suggested the boy meet again.

“Maybe we can have one last date before school starts again,” she reportedly wrote. “I’ll bring my toy.”
The teen’s cousin reportedly saw the messages between the two on Instagram and told his parents, after which the parents filed a police report, the station reports.
When police arrested Rae, court documents allege she told police she was unaware of the teen’s age.

“I thought he was of age… and dropped out of school,” she reportedly said.
According to ABC, Rae was granted bail by the High Court in June after telling the court she was pregnant, although a previous request had been rejected.
She was scheduled to stand trial in August 2025, but those dates have now become available.
Judge Roy Ellis set aside two and a half hours for a sentencing hearing on March 25 and ordered that a sentencing assessment report be prepared beforehand.
Ramsland said there would be “a lot of subjective material” in the submissions.

Police data cited by ABC noted that a NSW Department of Education professional learning transcript “indicated Rae completed child protection training in February 2024.”
She remains free on bail pending sentencing.
