Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump made a big mistake when they decided to make an enemy out of it Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ).
Kelly is known as a common-sense Democrat. Kelly doesn’t have a reputation as an extremely partisan or political bomber, which may be why Trump and Hegseth thought they could make an example of him.
Trump and Hegseth were wrong.
Senator Kelly took on Hegseth at his press conference:
With the approval of Republicans in the United States Senate, he has surrounded himself with people like Defense Secretary Pete Hegsath, who will do what he says, without question, no matter what. Trump and Hegsth, they care more about publicity than the rule of law. That’s how I found out through a tweet that the Minister of Defense ordered an investigation into me.
The same Secretary of Defense who, from the moment he was nominated, was historically unqualified for this position.
The same Defense Secretary who reportedly ordered a second strike to kill shipwreck survivors in the Caribbean. If there’s anyone who should answer questions in public and under oath, it’s Pete Hexath.
It is a dangerous moment for the United States of America when the President and his loyalists are using every lever of power to silence US Senators for speaking out. But we all know this isn’t about me, nor is it about the others in that video. They are trying to send a message to retired military personnel, to government employees, to members of the military, to elected officials, and to all Americans who are thinking about making their voices heard. You better keep your mouth shut, otherwise.
Kelly seems to know exactly what Trump and Hegseth are trying to do, and he’s standing up to them.
Senator Kelly scathingly compared what he went through to what Trump went through.
