The Trump administration is currently dealing with multiple situations in which they are trying to avoid responsibility for their actions or deny reports of their activities.
The White House is trying to blame Joe Biden for the shooting of two members of the West Virginia National Guard that Trump deployed by a person from Afghanistan to whom Trump has granted asylum.
The second problem is a military attack in the Caribbean, where Defense Minister Hegseth ordered military action against a boat the government believed was carrying drugs, and when there were survivors from the first attack, Hegseth ordered a second attack to kill them.
All the government has mustered in defense of the Hegseth story is to call it fake news, which is as good as an endorsement of its veracity in Trump’s statements.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) pointed out Sunday that the story may be worse than an illegal military strike.
Van Hollen was asked on ABC’s This Week: “So let me ask you about that Washington Post report on the attack on that Venezuelan alleged drug boat. What do you think about what happened there? Do you think a war crime was committed?”
The Maryland senator responded: “I think it’s entirely possible that a war crime was committed. For it to be a war crime, you obviously have to accept the entire construct of the Trump administration.”
