Leading experts on the United Nations and international law on Wednesday criticized the Hague-based International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its non-binding ruling that Israel is cooperating with a scandal-plagued UN aid agency that the US has cut off funding over its support for Hamas terrorists.
ICJ President Yuji Iwasawa said the Jewish state “has an obligation to agree to and facilitate assistance programs of the United Nations and its entities, including UNRWA.”

He warned that the ruling is also dangerous to American interests. “The ICJ claims it has ‘moral authority’, but it must have its own offer. The Court concluded that UNRWA is a neutral, legitimate aid organization, despite its members’ participation in the October 7 invasion of Hamas and the broad infiltration of its facilities and organization by Hamas, which the US government has recognized. Kontorovich, a senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation, added: “Based on this view, the ICJ could conclude that the US should continue to cooperate with UN agencies it wants to leave or boycott – or provide aid to terrorist groups trying to kill Americans. The US should abandon any treaty that gives the ICJ jurisdiction – and place its judge on the court recall.”

The State Department condemned the court’s ruling on support for Hamas’ terrorism. The discretion of the opinion suggests it is nothing more than a partisan political tool that can be used against Americans.”
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on order: UNRWA employees directly participated in the October 7 massacre and continue to support Hamas terrorist operations – all under the auspices of the United Nations.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres urged Israel to comply with the International Court of Justice ruling. In response to Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon calling the International Court of Justice ruling a “shameful decision,” a spokesman for Guterres told reporters: “We count on the government of Israel to comply with its legal obligations.” I’m not going to respond to the rhetoric of this or that official.”

“So in this case, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution declaring Israel guilty and then ‘asking’ the Court to approve the predetermined conclusion – to which the Court replied ‘yes, yes’.”
