Apple’s decision to comply with the Ministry of Justice’s request to remove apps that follow the locations of immigration and customs enforcement, such as Iceblock, caused mixed reactions on social media.
Conservatives praised the decision as a necessary step to protect law enforcement officers, since the efforts for massive deportation continue under the Trump government.
“After last week’s tragic shooting in the ICE facility of Dallas, the authorities said that the suspect used tracking apps, including Iceblock, before he opened the fire,” Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, posted on X.
The 17 arrested people consisted of 13 from Venezuela, two from Mexico, one from Ecuador and one from Nicaragua. (American immigration and customs enforcement)
“Thank you, [Attorney General Pam Bondi] To exert the necessary pressure to protect our law enforcement and to have the app removed, “Williams continued.
“Good, but this took way too long,” wrote conservative journalist Nick Sortor on X. “The Trump Doj intervened and pushed Apple to make the move.”
Homeland Security Assistant Department -Secretary Tricia McLaughlin broke a head from the New York Times with the text: “Apple takes the apps for the tracking of ice amidst the Trump print campaign.”

“When Apple made the right call to remove these apps that someone will have killed, the NYT turns it as an inextricable to political pressure – a shame for journalism,” she continued.
In the meantime, some criticized Apple’s decision to bring the app down.
“Wait. Now it is okay that the government demands something removes something? If the memory serves, this action was described only a short time ago in the most heated terms (and not entirely without reason) as a totalitarian violation of the right to freedom of expression, posted Morning Edition” host Steve Inskeep placed on X.
“Oh [Apple] You really suck for down Iceblock! WTH is there wrong with you? Put it back !! These are families that are split, just bc some not – ge sheighed losers decide – not ok, “wrote another user.

Iceblock came out in April, while anti-ace protests raged throughout the summer through big cities such as Los Angeles and Portland.
“Iceblock is designed to jeopardize ice officers only for doing their work, and violence against law enforcement is an unbearable red line that cannot be exceeded,” the attorney general continued. “This Ministry of Justice will continue to do every effort to protect our brave federal law enforcement officers who risk their lives every day to keep Americans safe.”

Apple said in a statement that they “made the App Store to be a safe and trusted place to discover apps.”
“Based on information we have received from law enforcement about the safety risks related to Iceblock, we removed this and similar apps from the App Store,” the company added.
IJsblock maker Joshua Aaron said that he was “incredibly disappointed by Apple’s actions today.”
