Southwest Airlines On Friday, flying with his first jetliner built with a secondary locking barrier designed to prevent intrusions in a design change that has been in the making since September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
In recent days, the airline has submitted a Boeing 737 Max 8 that flew from Phoenix to Denver and serves the flight as a milestone for a safety function that is used in new commercial aircraft that enter the American service in the coming years.
Secondary barriers have been asked since 11 September 2001, when terrorists make their way in cockpits and the four aircraft used in the deadliest terror attack in history. Aviation Safety Experts and Piloten ‘Trade Unions have argued that the secondary barriers will make Jetliners safer.
Boeing and Airbus told Reuters that they started delivering planes with the barriers in place under one Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulation from 2023 that came into effect last week.
