Somaliland, on the south coast of the Gulf of Aden, broke away from Somalia in 1991. The government would offer the US a new air and sea base close to the entrance to the Red Sea, and directly opposite Yemen and the Houthis, if the US recognizes it formally. Thirty percent of the container ship of the world is reportedly because of its waters on the way to or from the Suez Canal.
In the Oval Office on 8 August, Trump told reporters: “We are investigating that now”, when he was asked about the recognition of Somaliland and the possible resettlement of Gazans there, adding to it: “We are now working on that, Somaliland”.

Cruz added: “President Trump brings a new era of clarity in American national security, after four years of the Biden administration that rewarded our enemies and punished our allies, and recognizing Somaliland should be part of this new era.
“Somaliland has been a reliable ally of the United States, integrates with us and our allies worldwide and strives to help us prevent China’s efforts to undermine Americans’ safety and prosperity,” he said.

Earlier this month, Cruz wrote to President Trump about Somaliland and stated: “It requires the status of a state. I urge you to give that recognition.”
The president of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, is optimistic and tells the British Guardian -newspaper on 30 May: “Recognition is on the Horizon.” He added: “It’s a matter of time. Not if, but when”.
The port of Somaliland in Berbera is the jewel in every deal in Washington. Analysts say that it is in such a strategic position that both Russia and China have tried to acquire it. Immediately next to it is one of the five longest runways of Africa and the US offers the possibility of both a sea and the air base that can touch Houthi rebels to the north and Al Shabaab terrorists in the east.

In his letter to the White House, Cruz wrote: “Somaliland was created as a critical safety and diplomatic partner for the United States, allowing America to promote our national security interests in the horn of Africa and beyond. It is strategically located along the Gulf of Aden, near one of the world -straw. An American militia’s sequence. “

Somaliland also offers the access from the White House to rare earth minerals that are essential for high-tech industries, such as lithium and silicon quartz.
The US has described Somalia, with large numbers of both ISIS and Al-Qaeda coupled agents, as a terrorist safe haven. Now the increasing presence of China and military troops from countries such as Turkey are reportedly in Washington increasingly unhappy with his “One Somalia” policy, in which Somaliland is only recognized as part of Somalia.

But the Somaliland’s Foreign Minister worked in April the corridors and politicians of Washington, and various African sources, including the influential Horn Observer News Outlet, have reported that President Abdullahi is expected to come to DC soon. American officials, including the American ambassador in Somalia, Richard Riley, would have been to Somaliland at least three times this year to meet the president.
