GM Corvettes crushes American speed records in the legendary German Nürburgring -Racebaan
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, General Motors has recalled more than 23,000 Chevrolet Corvettes in response to a problem with the fuel leak related to several reported fires.
The recall was initiated after officials discovered that surplus fuel could spill the vehicles in the fuel filler bag during refueling and possibly leaking on an inflammatory source, which increased the risk of fire.
“In vehicles equipped with a combination of the left radiator/fan, the fuel filling pipe of the vehicle and the corresponding fuel filling bag (the sunken area with the fuel filling pipe) are placed above a radiator surface and a cooling fan,” is the NHTSA report.

“If excess fuel is spilled in the fuel filler bag (especially in cases where the tanking hose is not automatically switched off as designed) and leaks from the bag on the radiator surface while the cooling fan runs, the cooling fan can draw the leaked fuel through the radiator, the fuel in the engine auction”, the supplement and the filling. “

The issue was linked to four alleged fires that were identified by a GM examination, including two with “evidence that indicated that the filling station pump was not functioning properly and caused a fuel leak at the time of the incident.”

According to the NHTSA, the recall applies on 2023 to 2026 Corvette models.
The agency said that about 0.1% of the recalled vehicles were influenced by the issue. As part of the remedy, dealers will insert a shield to distract spilled fuel.

“This is a rare event, and poorly functioning filling station pumps seem to be a contributing factor. The safety of our customers is the highest priority for the entire GM team, and we work to remedy this issue as quickly as possible,” said a GM spokesperson in a statement to Road & Track.
