More than 50,000 pet laser toys are being recalled in the US after officials warned they pose a “serious risk of injury or death” to children.
The recall affects approximately 51,160 “Lil’ Buddies Pet Laser Toys” sold by JC Sales of Los Angeles. The products do not meet mandatory safety standards for items containing button and button cell batteries, according to a Thursday notice from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The agency said the toy has a dangerously unsecured battery compartment, making small batteries easily accessible to children.

Officials also noted that the products were not sold in child-resistant packaging and lacked required hazard warnings.
Coin and coin cell batteries can be extremely dangerous if swallowed, potentially causing internal burns, serious injury or death, according to the notice.
