In order to endorse or not to endorse, it is the question for house removal leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) while New York City and the Nation are waiting to see if this top democrat will throw his support behind the socialist mayor candidate Zohran Mamdani.
According to the donors of Zany Zohran, this should be a no-brainer. Finally, Mamdani won the primary exhibition and the square, but given his extreme left-wing proposals such as city-farming supermarkets, free buses and the replacement of police officers with social workers. Jeffries is rightly wary.

This week, Mayor Mamdani ran away to Uganda to have the heat out of a man who once said that the state should control the means of production that may rule Wall Street.
This Africa adventure gives Jeffries a little more time to decide whether they should endorse, but not much. The moment still comes.

What makes this choice so difficult for Jeffries is that he knows better than anyone else how dangerous these democratic socialists can be. In fact, it is the whole reason that he is now standing in line for the speakership as Democrats taking the house again.
In 2019, Jeffries replaced another New Yorker named Joe Crowley as chairman of the Democratic Caucus in the house. The coveted place in leadership was available because Crowley had suffered a shocking primary defeat by whom? A bartender called Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Despite the fact that AOC opened the door for Jeffries, he is actually much more a crowley than a Cortez. He is perhaps the poster child for the old -fashioned democratic machine politician.

Jeffries was born and raised in Brooklyn, State College Undergrad, Masters in Public Policy from Georgetown, Grade of NYU, served with a federal court, a decade of private practice, two years in the state meeting and now congress. That’s how it used to be done.
Now the celebration of Hakeem Jeffries is flooded with theater children who rip up and whose political training is almost exclusively from extreme-left activist organizations and Marxist tracts, and they want him to commit to this.
The political reality for Jeffries is that if he endorses Zohran, this 33-year-old, who can be credible can be called a communist, will be hung like a millstone around the neck of every democrat that runs to the house.
Jeffries answers the not yet endorsing of Mamdani for NYC Mayor
Even moderate house democrats trying to distance themselves from Mamdani and his parade of pathetic and old -socialist programs will be clearly and publicly reminded that the man they want to make, speaker of the house has endorsed a communist.
Nowhere is this more true than close to home in the districts in the suburbs New York that wiped Republicans in 2024 to keep their slender house majority. There is no path back to the power that does not flow through Long Island and Westchester.
Candidates from the Republican House such as established operators Mike Lawler and Nick Lalota will definitely make Mamdani a central point of their campaigns, regardless of who their actual opponents are.
There is no easy way out from this perilous situation for Jeffries. Either he refuses to endorse Mamdani and puts an angry civil war in his party, or he endorses him, and looks at the opportunities of Democrats to win the house and let him reduce the speaker enormously.

The hats of the cats are a major challenge for every party leader. It was for Nancy Pelosi, and it is for Jeffries. But the Mamdani question is greater than managing normal ideological differences. Jeffries must decide whether he will lead actual communists to the tent of the Democrats for the first time.
Most of us were born at a time when Democrats still proudly called themselves Jefferson and Jackson’s party. Nowadays it starts to look more like Marx and Guevara. Can Hacema brake Jeffries on the brakes? Don’t count on it.
My sources in Gotham, in both parties, those I trust most, all think that Jeffries will eventually give his support to Mamdani as quietly as possible. I am not completely convinced, but it is the path of the least resistance, a siren call for most politicians.

When and if Jeffries makes this cowardly choice, the Republicans must be willing to explain very clearly to Americans that one of their most important political parties has actually come to embrace communism.
For Hakeem Jeffries this is an existential choice, not only for his political future, but also the future of his political party and our nation itself.
