In the fall of 2024, the Minnesota governor was thrust into the national spotlight as the “White Guy Tacos”-loving vice presidential candidate of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. But after a rapid fall from grace, Coach Tim announced Monday that he has danced his last political waltz.
Although he isn’t stepping down — at least not yet — Gov. Tim Walz won’t seek a third term as leader of the Gopher State. Ultimately, the sheer scale of the Somali fraud that was happening unchecked under his nose was simply too much to recover from.
The bad news on the Somali front quickly snowballed for Walz, with reports that as much as $9 billion – with a ‘b’ – was stolen by members of the migrant community, while the governor seemed to do little other than protect the thieves.
Walz might have survived this chaos if he had taken it more seriously when the scandal broke, but the intrepid work of independent journalist Nick Shirley, whose shocking videos of empty daycare centers receiving millions from taxpayers, was probably the final straw.

In an interesting twist, Walz’s complete refusal to blame the Somali community or its leaders may also have played a key role in his political downfall.
Voters I spoke to in Minneapolis just three weeks ago — mostly white voters — were also extremely reluctant to pin responsibility for fraud on the immigrant community. That left one set of shoulders to bear the entire weight of the scandal: Tim Walz’s.
In his remarks Monday, Walz said he could not devote all his energy to a campaign given the situation. Of course he blamed it on Republicans and racism – what else?

“We have the president of the United States demonizing our Somali neighbors and wrongfully seizing the child care funding that Minnesotans depend on. It’s abhorrent. And it’s dangerous,” Walz offered as an excuse for his own incredible shortcomings.
Ultimately, Walz decided to boost his political career rather than face accusations of racism by nailing the broad, systemic fraud rampant in Minnesota’s Somali community.
From day one, Walz’s choice as Harris’ running mate — making him a leading face in the national Democratic Party — seemed like a bizarre choice. In theory, Walz would appeal to ordinary white men and give them permission to vote for a black woman.

There are two problems with this. The first is that “everyday” white men like Walz about as much as they like watching their women slowly pick out the linens at Bed Bath & Beyond. The second is that “everyday” white men would have no problem voting for a black woman who was competent and didn’t cackle like crazy every three sentences.
As someone who spends much of his time talking to “regular” white guys across the country, it was clear that whoever thought Walz had this appeal to male voters was someone who watched too many polls and who had never been to the Rust Belt outside of airport lounges.
Ultimately, it was this utter and complete lack of authenticity that also brought down the governor when the Somalia fraud scandal swirled. Each of his pitiful claims that critics were simply motivated by racism dug his political hole deeper and deeper.
FORMER WALZ RIVAL SAYS FRAUD HAS ‘COMMANDED’ MINNESOTANS AND DEMANDS RESPONSIBILITY
Watching Walz struggle to wish away one of the biggest fraud scandals in American history was more awkward than watching him try to load a shotgun. In both cases, he seemed to be trying to sell something to voters that even he didn’t really believe.
This is also a tragic day for members of the liberal media who for weeks defended Walz’s shoddy handling of the Somalia scandal, telling us this was not a problem and that it is happening everywhere. Real? If so, why is he suddenly leaving public life in January 2027?

Tim Walz will go down in history as little more than an avatar of white guilt — the weak, apologetic eunuch of a white man that progressives would like all our sons to become. But today our sons can see clearly that the real lesson is, “Don’t be that guy.”
Reports indicate that Democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar, a woman with her own presidential ambitions, could now step in for Walz. This is telling, since Klobuchar, as a federal official, carries none of the stench of scandal that most, if not all, Democratic state officials in Minnesota do.

The good news for Walz is that he now has more time to work on his truck while he knocks back a few beers and tells stories about the glories of high school football — or whatever he thinks white boys do all day.
Good riddance, Governor – and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
