President Donald Trump will probably again negotiate the United States – Mexico – Canada Agreement (USMCA) next year to protect the American jobs, said trade secretary Howard Lutnick on Sunday.
Lutnick called De Move a logical step during an appearance on CBS ‘Face the Nation’.
“It is completely logical,” said the billionaire businessman, referring to the upcoming joint assessment of the trade agreement.
“I think the president is absolutely passing with USMCA, but that is a year from today,” said Lutnick, pointing to the planned assessment of July 2026. The assessment, part of the Sunset clause of the agreement, makes it possible to be assessed the deal every six years and adjusts it with an extension after 16 years.

“He wants to protect the American jobs,” Lutnick said about Trump. “He doesn’t want cars to be built in Canada or Mexico When they can be built in Michigan and Ohio. It’s just better for American employees. “

Trump mediated the USMCA with Mexico and Canada during his first term as a replacement for the North -American free trade agreement (NAFTA), which came into force in 1994.

The USMCA requires that 75 percent of the car components in the United States, Canada or Mexico are manufactured to prevent rates. It also opened new markets for American wheat, poultry and eggs, among other things.

Lutnick praised Trump’s approach to trade and rates and said that the president “is doing the right way.”
