Donald Trump seems to be very concerned about the rise of Zohran Mamdani, but why is the president of the United States so worried about a mayor race when he has to rule a whole nation?
President Trump may have moved from New York City, but he has discussed privately or he should mediate in his fractious race for mayor to try to stop Zohran Mamdani, the democratic nomine, to stop, according to eight people who are aware of the discussions.
In recent weeks, Mr Trump has questioned a Republican Congressman and New York business people about who in the busy field of candidates, including mayor Eric Adams and former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, has the best chance of beating Mr. Mamdani, the left front runner.
Electorally spoken, an approval of Trump for Adams or Cuomo would probably be the kiss of death in the current political environment. Donald Trump is not historically popular, and his approval would probably hurt more than helping Adams or Cuomo.
Electorally spoken, as long as the non-Mamdani mood is divided, no one has a good chance of beating him.
The Trump-friendly NYT story paints the concern of the president as based on his history of a New Yorker, which is so clear BS that it is inscrutable that it is printed without fun. Trump was convicted of 34 crimes in New York and did nothing but throw away the city while he was on trial. Trump loves New York so much that he has changed his residence in Florida.
What Trump is really worried about can be found in the Gallup survey of the approval assessments of the newspaper maker for which I wrote The daily.
The most popular politician among the 14 news makers in the poll was Senator Bernie Sanders, who has already endorsed Mamdani loudly.
Trump is not worried because of Mamdani himself, but because of the energy links that people like Sanders and Mamdani represent. In 2026, that energy could beat a considerable number of republicans and make Trump a Lamme-Duck president.
This is not about New York. The point is that America changes and rejects Trump and his party.
Trump’s interference can be counterproductive and ultimately lead to the election of Mamdani.
