Facts are difficult for Republicans, especially when they contradict a story that De Gop is trying to build to protect their president while the Jeffrey Epstein scandal keeps bubbling.
The biggest Trump loyalists in the congress seem to have taken the position that if the facts are not on their side, they will form new.
Sen. MarkWayne Mullin (R-OK) was asked in the state of CNN’s State of the Union why AG Pam Bondi kept saying that she would release the Epstein files if she didn’t.
Video:
Mullin replied:
We have made the assumption that the judges would release the order and allow the evidence they had heard it. If it is – but it is all sealed. And so if it has been a sealed case, we cannot release it until the jury members allow us to release it.
And you would think that common sense would play. That is why they asked for transparency. We want transparency. We want the judges to have transparency in this. But remember that there was a plea that was made in 2009, long before I was in office, long before Trump even considered in office, long before Pam Bondi was an office, long before Kash Patel was director.
2009, there was a sweetheart plea that was closed under the Obama government with Epstein …
Jake Tapper thought of Biden’s age for a moment And jumped in: “No, that’s not right. That’s not …”
Mullin continued: “And that sweetheart is not exposed. Isn’t it?”
Tapper, “No, it was 20008.”
Mullin, “Well, when was the case heard?”
Tapper, “It was 2008. It was – the American lawyer was a man named Alex Acosta at the time. He was a bush appointment. He became President Trump’s Secretary of Labor. It all took place in 2008.”
Mullin, “Who was in the office at the time?”
Tapper, “2008, George W. Bush was in …”
Mullin, “Who was in the office at the time?”
Tapper, “George W. Bush.”
Mullin decided to argue about it: “No, 2009 was the case at the time, and it was – and Obama was in office at that time.”
Tapper, “It’s not true. It’s not true.”
The fact that Senator Mullin, after being corrected, refused to accept the correction as a fact and accepted the false information, reveals the entire Trump Republican party mindset.
Our government system is built on the assumption of dual cooperation. In order for cooperation, there must be a basis for shared facts and reality for all involved.
Creating republicans and living in their own reality, which makes consistent two -pure administration virtually impossible.
Republicans such as Senator Mullin would rather protect Trump than living in a real world. It’s not stupidity. It is a choice that breaks a fundamental assumption on which the US government is based.
