Peter Mandelson, a former British ambassador to the United States who was dismissed from his post after his ties to Jeffrey Epstein came to light, was arrested in England on Monday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, authorities said.
London’s Metropolitan Police said “officers arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of misconduct in a public office” at an address in north London and was taken to a police station for questioning.
Police have not named Mandelson, in line with British police practice, but the suspect in the case has previously been identified as Mandelson.
Mandelson was fired from his diplomatic post in September after material was published showing his ties to Epstein.

Police are investigating Mandelson based on documents indicating that he passed sensitive government information to Epstein a decade and a half ago. He is not facing any allegations of sexual misconduct.
