In what would have been a stunning announcement a few years ago, Langone Medical Center, a healthcare giant in New York City, has announced that it will stop offering surgeries and hormone treatments for children confused about their gender.
This comes after years of the medical establishment insisting that surgeries on minors are very rare and only “necessary” in extreme cases.
Last year, the Harvard School of Public Health published an article titled “Gender-affirming surgeries rarely used on transgender youth,” which conveniently did not include the actual number of children who have undergone such procedures.

This was stated in the article written by the co-author of the cited study: “Our findings suggest that legislation blocking gender-affirming care among TGD youth is not about protecting children, but is rooted in prejudice and stigma against TGD identities and seeks to address a perceived problem that does not actually exist.”

Follow that? The people who don’t want to dismember children based on their gender insanity don’t actually care about children; the people who really care about children are the ones who wield the scalpels, even if they claim the procedures are rare.
It’s the old, “It doesn’t happen, you’re crazy. Okay, it happens, but very rarely. Okay, it happens often, but it’s a good thing.”
Much less rare, however, are hormone therapies for children, such as puberty blockers, which Langone will also no longer provide. Importantly, they will continue to provide mental health care for gender dysphoria, which is obviously the right way to treat someone who believes they are trapped in the wrong body.

The catalyst here, for Langone and other major medical centers across the country, is not just the threat of regulation, as most have cited. It’s also a recent court decision in New York in which a detransitioner won a $2 million lawsuit against the doctors who removed her breasts as a child.
The verdict was a shot in the arm for every clinic in the country that uses surgery or possibly even hormones in transgender treatments for children. They could have been taken to court and forgotten completely.
But honestly, it’s a fair test. A doctor who performs unalterable surgery on a child because they are as confused as the child about how gender works should pay a price.

The very fact that people regret trans surgery is itself proof that this should not happen within a mile of children.
Even the old hostage argument that if we don’t medically alter trans children they will commit suicide, which had activists and doctors asking scared parents whether they wanted a trans child or a dead child, turned out to be a lie.
Last year, during a Supreme Court hearing on the ban on transgender treatments for children, activist and attorney Chase Strangio made exactly that damning admission when Justice Samuel Alito asked him whether the literature clearly shows that suicides among trans children are on the rise.

Strangio flatly admitted that this was not the case, saying, “There is no evidence in some studies that this treatment reduces the number of completed suicides.”
As our society emerges from this bizarre trans fever dream and returns to the age-old and obvious fact that men are men and women are women, it becomes clear how weak every aspect of it has been.

If, as the medical establishment insists, transgender medical treatment of children is so rare that it is no longer a problem, then there should be no problem ending the programs and finding better treatment options until a child reaches adulthood.

The left’s argument is not about what makes sense, or even what is best for the children. This is really about confirming the delusions of adults who want the whole world to pretend with them.

The positive news is that the reaction to Langone’s sensible decision has been relatively muted so far. At least for now, advocates of transgender for all are, as President Donald Trump puts it, decidedly on their heels.
But this is no time to give up. Saving children from medical procedures based on delusions is a great first step, but what we really need to do is ensure that the delusions are not encouraged in the first place.
