The White House keeps trying to send Donald Trump to make speeches about the economy, but Trump’s mind’s inability to focus and express coherent thoughts, combined with the fact that he has no interest in policy whatsoever and no policy to tout to voters, it all leads to disaster when Trump comes to town and is placed in front of a live microphone.
This was the extent of Trump’s plan to solve the affordability crisis. Trump called the affordability issue bogus and claimed he had “won” the affordability issue.
Trump said: “Then I have to listen to the fake news. Talk about affordability. Affordability. Notice, what word haven’t you heard in the last two weeks? Affordability, because I won. I won affordability. I had to start talking about it, but we inherited a mess. We inherited the worst inflation in history.”

The data shows that Trump is lying. On the crucial issue of food prices, CNBC recently reported: “The average price of eggs – a frequent proxy for inflation during the campaign – has fallen from its peak in spring 2025 and is now down 30% since Trump took office last year. Average prices for orange juice are up 28% and ground beef prices are up 15% from January 2025. Prices for pork bacon and chicken are also up.”
Electricity prices have risen 6.9% in the first year of Trump’s second term, so if this wins on affordability, I’d hate to see what losing looks like.
The event grew worse as Trump spoke.
