Republicans in Texas and increasingly across the country have been very clear about who they don’t want to see win in Texas’ Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate. State Rep. James Talarico is the candidate they fear more in the general election than Rep. Jasmine Crockett.
Trump and his party have spent years attacking and demonizing Rep. Crockett, who will have a bright future in politics regardless of the outcome of the Democratic U.S. Senate primary in Texas.
Crockett came into the Senate primary and doesn’t really have an established campaign organization. Crockett’s campaign plan is to attract new voters to the polls. In a state like Texas, where Republicans have suppressed elections for decades, getting new voters involved in the process is likely easier said than done.
Trump’s FCC issued guidelines that all daytime and late-night talk shows must offer equal time to political candidates, which, as Colbert explained on his show, meant that CBS told him that his interview with Talarico could not be aired.

Colbert said that Talarico:
was supposed to be here, but our network’s lawyers, who called us directly, told us in no uncertain terms that we couldn’t have him on the air. Then I was told in uncertain terms that not only could I not wear it, but that I couldn’t say I didn’t have it on. And since my network clearly doesn’t want us to talk about this, let’s talk about this.

The attempt to silence Talarico has had a major backfire on CBS, the Trump administration and the Republican Party.
