Joy Behar bills herself as a comedian and co-host of ABC’s “The View,” but she’s never been as funny as she was this week, when she proclaimed, “I think we should have more Republicans on the show, but they won’t show up.” They’re afraid of us.’
That’s hilarious. Many conservatives would accept an invitation. Conservatives invited themselves. Ted Cruz told us in 2023 that he asked to appear on “The View” as a plug for his latest book, “Unwoke.” They said no. Riley Gaines, who became a prominent activist against men in women’s sports after suffering from it as a college swimmer, was also introduced as a guest, and they said no. In the wake of Behar’s comments, many more conservatives presented themselves as compliant on social media. They will say no.
This “afraid of us” claim was a Pants on Fire lie.
CONSERVATIVES COME UP WITH BILLS AFTER ‘THE VIEW’ CLAIMS THEY ARE AFRAID TO APPEAR ON THE SHOW
In reality it is the opposite. “The View” is a lot like MSNBC. They don’t invite true conservatives because their left-wing audience can’t handle listening to an opposing view. Their biggest fans love “The View” exactly as it is: as a fortified liberal bubble.

Nicholas Fondacaro, who watches The View daily for NewsBusters, tracked guest numbers for the 2024-2025 season and counted exactly zero conservatives. Since returning from their winter break on Jan. 6, “The View” invited 102 guests to talk politics, and they all expressed left-wing views. That includes 19 Democratic politicians and zero Republicans.
The last time a Republican appeared to defend Trump was former New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu during the previous season in August 2024. The fall campaign guests were unanimous.
CO-HOSTS OF ‘THE VIEW’ SAY THEY WANT MORE REPUBLICANS ON THE SHOW, AND CLAIM THEY ARE TOO ‘SCARED’ TO COME
In the same conversation, host Whoopi Goldberg claimed that they ask “tough questions” of everyone, which is also hilarious. On October 1, they hosted pro-Hamas socialist Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City. He was caught off guard. For example, co-host Sunny Hostin asked him, “At 33, you’re a rising star in the Democratic Party. You’re the frontrunner to become the next mayor of New York City in November. My question is: Did you see this coming? And what have you attributed this meteoric rise to?” It felt like an Obama interview, and they sure loved Obama when he came to visit.
Behar’s throwaway comment about having more Republicans on the show came after the ladies spoke with Cheryl Hines, the wife of Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Because she was forced to defend her husband and his policies, Hines would count as a conservative by our measures. But she’s not really conservative. She’s a Hollywood comedian, just like Whoopi and Joy. But she has followed her husband on his journey to join President Donald Trump after Democrats thwarted Kennedy’s primary bid for president. Liberal comedian friends like Tig Notaro announced they had to “distance themselves” from Hines.

Having no conservative guests makes it easier for “The View” to drop bombs without any reluctance. Behar had claimed that Republicans are in thrall to the gun lobby, and “They make a lot of money off infant mortality in this country.” Hostin called Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan a “terrorist” for asking hostile questions during a hearing where she testified. Behar has claimed that the Republican Party is dead and that it can no longer win elections. When Trump sent the National Guard to protect ICE agents, Behar claimed, “This is a pretext to stop the next election!”
CHARLAMAGNE CRITICIZES ‘THE VIEW’ FOR LACK OF CONSERVATIVE GUESTS
You could see this intolerance for dissent four years ago, when Meghan McCain, who surprisingly became a conservative co-host on the show — making Democrats the ones afraid to appear — felt she couldn’t stay. There was “venomous, direct and purposeful animosity” from Behar and Whoopi Goldberg, McCain wrote in her memoir “Bad Republican,” and it “became nastier and less forgiving” as Trump’s term wore on, even as McCain routinely dissented from Trumpism.
She remembered returning from maternity leave. On her second day back, she joked with Behar, “Joy, you missed me so much when I was on maternity leave. You missed the fight with me.’ Behar didn’t play along. “I didn’t do that,” she said. “I didn’t miss you! Zero!” McCain felt humiliated.

In her London Daily Mail column for Election Day 2022, Meghan McCain responded directly to her longtime friend and co-host Hostin, who characterized white women who voted for Republicans as “cockroaches who voted for Raid” — voting for their own demise. McCain was unable to object in real time on national television.
When she left, a Washington Post TV critic said McCain was “a highly effective heel, a reality villain who hates and hates.” Many considered her their reality hero. McCain was replaced in the cast by former Trump aide Alyssa Farah Griffin, who robotically agrees with the mind-meld to keep the checks coming. She acts like Cinderella and lets the ugly stepsisters push her around.
