Cathy McMorris Rodgers continues her work on things in the middle -old after leaving Capitol Hill.

“I understand how vulnerable we have become because our pharmaceutical supply chain, so many of them are controlled by China. So this initiative is in line with some of the priorities I had while I served in the congress,” Rodgers added.
The Trump administration has made production back to the US a top priority. However, if domestic production is not possible, Vriendshoring can be the solution that depends on close relationships to get critical supplies.
When it comes to medicines, China dominates the current market, especially when it comes to the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and generic medicines, Rodgers said. In July, The Brookings Institution released a report in which it estimated that Chinese APIs were included in about a quarter of the drug volume sold in the US

The former conference member emphasized the importance of the Abraham agreements and diplomatic initiatives that started under President Donald Trump in 2020. She said that the initiative has succeeded in creating “government-to-governmental” ties, and now the usiea wants to expand to economic relationships between Abraham Accords Nations.

“They want to diversify what more energy has been historically, oil dominated,” said Rodgers. “It is an idea whose time has come, I believe and would do that. Both the goal of guaranteeing our national security and to prevent our dependence on foreign opponents such as China for these supply chains, but also building on the Abraham -agreement countries and the important relationship there.”
Although she is no longer on Capitol Hill, Rodgers believes that her former colleagues play an important role in the initiative. She said that a top priority is to get an FDA office in the region, something that she hopes will be done this year.
