There are few certain things in politics, but if Glenn Youngkin was the first term of the established governor of a state other than Virginia, he might be one.
A Republican with a strong approval classification in a state that went for Joe Biden in 2024 is Youngkin is popular, competent and photogenic. But the old rule, thanks to a grill in the Constitution of 1776, is the only state where a governor cannot serve two consecutive terms. So instead of getting the chance to re-sell Youngkin, Virginia voters will be confronted in November with a choice between Lieutenant Governeur Winsome Earle-Sears and former Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger.

There is no way to Sugarcoat that this is a real disadvantage for the Gop. If Youngkin was allowed to run, it is not even clear that Spanberger would have entered the race. Now she is a tough favorite to win.
Youngkin has had more than 50% in the approval rating in Richmond almost all the time, no common performance in a Commonwealth that Kamala Harris handed a six -point victory over Donald Trump last year.

The question is whether there is a way for Republicans to use the powerful power of the Incumbency and to transfer from Youngkin to Earle-Sears. And although it may seem unconventional, the answer should really be, yes.
Youngkin’s performance in less than four years are impressive. He delivered $ 4 billion in tax cuts. In 2024, CNBC Virginia ranked the “Top State for Business” in the country. His revision of the education system has increased standards for students.
This is what Youngkin would rise if Virginia Law was not so strange, but why can’t Earle Sears walk on this album? After all, she stood straight on his side all the time. Why can’t they even run on it together?
Earle-Sears is in almost precisely the opposite position that Kamala Harris was a year ago and replaces the top dog on the ticket. In the case of Harris it was because Joe Biden was not suitable to serve, while in the case of Youngkin it is because of a decision of some boys in powder forms 250 years ago.
But although Harris was doomed by her inability to distinguish herself from the wild unpopular and Bungling Biden, Earle-Sears has no reason to distance themselves from Youngkin. Instead, she should celebrate what they have achieved together.
We should see Youngkin and Earle-Sears hip to huge with rallies and on TV advertisements, he defends his successful some term, and promised her to continue and expand.
This scheme, if not entirely a co-campaign than a quasi-incumbency, could not only help Earle Sears, it could help Youngkin with potential future political ambitions. Let us not forget that in the days before the Republican National Convention he was a serious dark horse for the VP slot.
In Milwaukee, at that RNC, you saw Youngkin’s political pork chops at work. People would come to him, partly because he is about 8 feet long and easily recognized, but also because they just love the man.
None of this is a knock on Earle-Sears, who recommends her a lot to her own merits, but to leave Youngkin, and everything he brings to the table on the sidelines, would be political malpractice.

Until now, the Earle-Sears campaign focused on cultural war issues, especially the struggle for the provinces of North Virginia that flood the rules of the Trump administration on transbreeding policy rules such as boys in women’s sports and toilets.
This is an important and powerful problem, but it is not enough in itself.

The economy, on the other hand, is not a sexy problem, but it certainly wins elections. Earle-Sears is in the unique position not only to say that she can achieve a strong state economy, but that it is already part of the team that has realized that promise.
When the 22nd amendment to the American Constitution was discussed, some Andrew Jackson wanted more than a century earlier: a few years of six years for President who would remove the burden (and temptations) of running for re -election.

In 1951, the congress landed in two term of four years instead. But what nobody ever suggested seriously was a single term of four years, because it is not enough time to see through major projects and efforts. Not for the US, and not for a state.
Perhaps more than any other political office in America, the governorship of Virginia is really stored than powerful. Youngkin is a caregiver in the short term, but what is the most important thing for his estate is who will then receive the keys to Commonwealth.
