Nissan is recalling 26,432 vehicles due to improperly welded door openers that could increase the risk of injury or crash.
The Japanese automaker said the problem is specific to the 2025 model year Sentra and Altima sedans, the 2025-2026 model year Frontier pickups and the 2026 model year Kicks SUVs. No other Nissan or Infiniti vehicles are affected by the problem.
“Certain Nissan vehicles may be equipped with one or more door openers that were improperly welded during the supplier’s manufacturing process,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in the recall report.

“As a result, the door opener wire loop may lack sufficient strength and in certain cases crack and separate from the plate.”
The door opener is an important safety feature of a vehicle that keeps the doors from opening in the event of a crash.

The NHTSA said that if the striker becomes loose from the plate, the “door latch may not hold the door in the intended manner during driving or during a crash” and could increase the risk of injury to the vehicle’s occupants.
The regulator’s report included details of what drivers of affected vehicles can do to identify a faulty door opener alert, although the regulator warned this can happen without warning.
“Customers may notice a rattling sound from the door opener if only one side of the closing wire is cracked; however, if both sides are cracked, there may be no warning prior to a failure,” the NHTSA wrote.

According to NHTSA’s recall chronology, a technician noticed a problem with the door opener wire during a door fit on a 2025 Nissan Sentra in August, prompting the company to initiate containment measures, a yard audit and an investigation with the supplier.
An audit of approximately 23,930 2025 Nissan Sentra vehicles at the company’s plant in Mexico identified 12 vehicles with possible problems with door openers. The supplier’s investigation revealed problems in the welding process.

Nissan this month began evaluating the potential impact of a broken door assembly on the door’s performance and compliance, and after determining that it could potentially lead to the door opening while driving or during an accident, Nissan decided to issue a voluntary recall of potentially affected vehicles.
The NHTSA announcement noted that Nissan is not aware of any warranty claims, accidents or injuries related to this issue.
