In the mid -1970s, Steven Spielberg produced a film called “Jaws”, the fictional story of a monster shark that made a meal of the swimmers off the coastline of New England. An iconic scene is a crispy boat captain, the police chief and a scientist. They left on the captain’s fishing boat in search of the shark. Nobody had seen it before. When these three men did, they almost fell for fear. The police chief delivered one of the most famous lines in cinema history: “You need a larger boat!”
Their craft was not a party for the threat. Suppose the three men had driven in a larger ship: the Zeewise Reus. It was the largest ship ever built, more than four football pitches. It weighed more than 564,000 tons.

If the three men had seen the gigantic shark of the deck of the oil tanker, their reaction would have been different. They would have noticed the shark, have spoken about it, may have taken pictures of it. But would they have feared it as they did in the smaller ship? No. They would feel safe in a large ship.
The sea of life swims with sharks. They fall, gush and devour. But they can’t destroy you. Why? Because you called on the ship Live. You are safe in his hands, located in his plans and sustained in his grace.
Max Lucado: Find peace and faith in God in the middle of the storm
If you think you only face your problems, you will never find deep and permanent peace. On the other hand, if you believe you are taking on your challenges in the Lord– In the presence of the Lord, in the name of the Lord, in the power of the Lord, in the protection of the Lord – you can be full of joy because you are full of the Lord.
The sea of life swims with sharks. They fall, gush and devour. But they can’t destroy you.
Jesus offers this certainty: “Peace I leave with you, my peace that I give you; not like the world, I give you. Don’t let your heart be worried, don’t let it be afraid” (John 14:27, NKJV).
Jesus contrasts two types of peace – the peace that offers the world and the peace that he offers.

“Tame Your Thoughts” was published by Max Lucado on August 12, 2025, by Thomas Nelson. (Thomas Nelson)
The peace that the world offers depends on the circumstance. If the weather is correct. If the traffic is light. When the stock market is over. If the cholesterol numbers fall. If the husband is happy. If the flight is on time. As. As. As. As.
What you need to know about God’s wonderful ‘who’ policy
Is your peace a “like” peace?
Exchange “as” peace for “his” peace.
“My peace that I give you.”
Jesus offers are peace! To be clear, he offers no peace pretend are. He offers his own peace!
I saw a picture of peace rights in Chicago O’Hare. The atmosphere of the airport was anything but peaceful. Thunder was audible outside. The tension was palpable on the inside. The hour was late and we passengers were not happy. Unless heaven has disappeared, we would be looking for hotel rooms and flights on the next day.
Oh, grumbling.

I did my part. Airport food again? Grrr.
Everyone was upset. Well, almost everyone. I heard someone sing. Sitting a few meters away was a mother and her baby. A blanket covered the nurse child. It was clear to me that the calmest person in the seating area was a baby, only a few months old.

The child had peace because the child had a mother. The baby had the peace of the mother – the warmth of the mother’s body, the food of breast milk, the comfort of the mother’s song, the certainty of the presence of the mother.
Pull the child out of the arms of the mother, would burst fear. But because the child was near the mother, the baby was the calmest person at the airport.
While imagining the airport scene, you are more like the hectic, frightened travelers Or the resting baby?

God longs to give us what the mother gave that child. His warmth. His diet. His certainty. We can have the peace of Jesus. We can upgrade thoughts from catastrophe and replace them with truths such as this: “The peace of God, who surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts” (Phil. 4: 7 NKJV).
If your heart needs peace, trust God.
