On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt held a press conference to try to pin Democrats and the left as responsible for political violence.
Leavitt called the left a cult of hate:
The left-wing cult of hatred against the president and all those who support and work for him has led to multiple people being injured and killed, and almost was. So again, as you read this shooter’s manifesto this weekend, ask yourself: how different is this almost-assassin’s rhetoric from what you read every day on social media and hear on various forums.
If you are honest with yourself, the answer is that there is no difference at all. Much of the would-be killer’s manifesto is indistinguishable from the words we hear from so many every day.
For example, as the First Lady of the United States noted this morning, just two days before the shooting: Jimmy Kimmel, ABC’s late-night host disgustedly called First Lady Melania Trump a soon-to-be widow. Who in their right mind says that a woman would be happy about the possible murder of her beloved husband. And after experiencing what I did with the First Lady on Saturday night, I can tell you that she was anything but that. This kind of rhetoric about the President, the First Lady and his supporters is completely insane. And it’s incredible that the American people consume it night after night after night.
As President Trump said on this stage Saturday evening, we as Americans must recommit to peacefully resolving our differences and uniting around the shared values that make our country great. The crazy lies and slander against the president. His family, his supporters, have led crazy people to believe crazy things, and because of those words they are inspired to commit violence. It has to stop.
Watch Sarah Jones debunk the White House lies about Democratic rhetoric:
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries responded at his own news conference by ripping Leavitt apart.
Jeffries said:
I think that’s interesting to me, as you pointed out. Is that the so-called White House press secretary, who is a disgrace, a stone cold liar, who had the audacity to stand up there and read talking points while being critical of statements, all taken out of context that the Democrats made and had not a word to say about anything MAGA extremists have said or done, including providing aid and comfort to violent insurrectionists here in this capital on January 6, who brutally beat police officers.
