Sean Duffy Previews Plan for a new air traffic control system
Transport sec. Sean Duffy joins ‘America’s Newsroom’ to discuss safety problems after an air traffic control employee said that the level of stress in the work is ‘unsurpassed’ and his report on the proposed high-speed rail of California.
Thanks to President Donald Trump, America is building again. And we build large, beautiful infrastructure beyond our roads and bridges for the aircraft of the 21st century. That starts with one, large, beautiful account to launch the construction of a brand new air traffic control system.
I recently returned from representing the United States at the Air Show of Paris. The largest aviation event in the world showed the latest technology that transformed modern airspace. From unmanned drone deliveries to supersonic air travel, how we fly in the air of the next century will go much further than the first. A completely new air traffic control system is a condition for heralding the next generation of aviation.
While I am abroad, I have learned that the air traffic control systems of France have recently undergone their own modernization process, and they see an increase in the airspace efficiency of more than 34 percent. That means that they can move more planes and more people than before with fewer obstacles. This also means that the largest nation in the world is surpassed by France – the same people who free up for vacation for most of the summer. We can and must do better.
Duffy is insisting on Senate to pass Big Beautiful Bill’s $ 12.5 billion air traffic system
The last government was consumed by an obsession with identity policy. They concentrated on changing terms such as “cockpit” and “airmen” instead of tackling multiple watchdog warnings about the vulnerabilities in our airspace. The last boys thought that repairing air traffic was just too difficult to do. As a transport secretary I am again focused on safety, innovation and building large, beautiful things. But we need the passage of the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” to even get started.
Elvis and the Rolling Stones still pumped Billboard -Hits when our current air traffic control network was integrated. Floppy drives, copper threads and rotating phones – this is the kind of outdated equipment on which our system depends on to manage aviation. It is unacceptable and it leads to years of glitches, delays and cancellations in our air space.
Trump Admin proposes a brand new air traffic control system to improve safety, ‘unlocking the future of air travel’
To be clear, flying is safe. We have several fired in place, but the system shows its age. The air is now busier than ever, with drones, air taxis and commercial spacecraft that push the boundaries of aviation. The systems from the past cannot manage the flights of the future.
That is why I recently rolled out a plan to build a brand new Envy-of-the-World air traffic control system. It is time for us to retire our current equipment from eBay and Radioshack to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Disruptions in Newark and the disaster at DCA in January show why politicians can no longer postpone. These problems did not suddenly appear in six months and we cannot wait another decade to tackle them.
The remarkable progress we have made at Newark is proof of what we can do. After short malfunctions tore pilots and delayed travelers, we strengthened the air safety through fiber optics, we replace outdated copper connections and accelerated the construction of a new runway.

With $ 12.5 billion in financing the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill”, we can start with major changes to our air traffic control system. We need more money, but this critical financing is a start to cover state-of-the-art radar, fiber optic lines and new radios that should have been integrated years ago. It is not the completely new system that President Trump wants, and America deserves it, but it is an important deposit to complete the job.
It comes down to it: every day that passes without financing is another day that my department cannot build. The choice for the congress is clear – give one, large, beautiful account and let our department go to work. A “no” voice leaves us with zero dollar to replace our aging system.
No problem has Major American Airlines ever united more than the need to bring about a revolution in air traffic control. In May, 10 airlines wrote a joint letter I am supporting my plan to build an advanced new system.

“Aviation remains the safest transport mode in the US,” they wrote. “But to stay that way, serious upgrades must now happen.”
Their letter to the congress compliments the support of more than 50 aviation organizations that join the Modern Skies Coalition to support our initiative. One, large, beautiful Bill delivers a down payment of $ 12.5 billion to this critical project. At the congress I urge this to get this done without delay. Our ability to build a brand new air traffic control system will define aviation for the following century and keep the air travel for generations safe.
