Hundreds of American citizens evacuated Iran last week before America hit three of Iran’s most important nuclear sites on Saturday, according to an internal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Cable, Reuters reported.
While many Americans could leave without problems, “countless” citizens were confronted with “delays and intimidation” while they tried to leave, the outlet added, referring to the cable allegedly dating on Friday. Two civilians who tried to leave Iran were reportedly held.
The reported evacuation problems that Americans are confronted underline the broader challenges that Washington has found in helping its subjects in Iran, a country that had not had any diplomatic ties with the US since the Iranian revolution in 1979.

“If you plan to leave Iran, the department has opened a crisis intake form for American citizens in Iran to pass on information about consular help,” the department added. “Because of the limitations of American consular support in Iran, American citizens looking for departure must benefit from existing means to leave Iran. The crisis intake and the latest information for American citizens who want to leave Israel and Iran can be found on our banner page on Travel.state.gov.”

Israel-Iran Conflict: Live Updates
During a press conference, spokesperson Tammy Bruce of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tammy Bruce said on Friday that the US has no higher priority than the safety and security of Americans, and added that the administration offered thousands of people guidance on how Iran and Israel have to leave escalating tensions between the two countries.
“We do not anticipate offering the American departure from Iran assisted by the American,” said Bruce. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided information and support to more than 25,000 people looking for guidelines on the situation in Israel, the West Bank and Iran.”
Americans who wanted to leave Iran were advised to use land routes via Azerbaijan, Armenia or Turkey, while Iranian airspace remains closed, according to a travel alarm from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The government may help American citizens as soon as they leave the boundaries.
