I may not be on the roof anymore, but I did not stop looking at the horizon and what I see from Washington has to take care of every American who believes in goal, services and religious freedom.
It is called the “A big beautiful Bill -Act. “Sounds nice, right? But buried under that beautiful name is policy that threatens to paralyze Christian higher education and to punish students who choose to live instead of having cash.
At first glance, this legislation claims to make education more responsible. But the small print tells a different story.
Pastor Corey Brooks: The Power of Building always beats the power of politics
Under this proposal, colleges, especially Christian, would be assessed on how many their graduates earn compared to drop -outs in high school. If your calling does not come with a big salary, if you are a teacher, a pastor, a social worker, your diploma will be considered Less valuable. And the school that you prepared? Financially punished.
That is not a reform. That is economic discrimination of targeted education.
Let us not destroy the schools that teach integrity, character and Christ -like service. Let us not suffocate the pipeline of hope that flows from classrooms to communities in this country.
Let me split it even further.
• Christian colleges – The institutions that train leaders for ministry, mission work, mental health and community transformation would be beaten with millions in penalties, simply because their students are employed instead of sale.
• The government would impose loan caps that make it more difficult for students with low incomes to follow the college of their choice.
• They want to eliminate Grad Plus loans, intestinal parent help and limiting Pell Grant Access for part -time students, cutting off lifelines for families who already scrape past.
• Institutions -based institutions that are not linked to a denomination, but living through every day, biblical values can lose important religious exemptions under new tax language. That is an attack on religious freedom, dressed as a tax reform.
Let me be clear: I am not against accountability. I believe in stewardship. But this bill punishes institutions that serve the public by preparing graduates for the trenches, not just the towers.

It punishes schools whose alumni counselors become instead of consultants … church planters instead of business climbers … healers instead of hustlers.
We do not need a country where only profit -driven paths are rewarded. We need a nation where calling is still important.
One in three students at CCCU schools is a recipient of Pell Grant. One in three is a student of the first generation. More than half come from families who earn less than $ 50,000 a year. They don’t have to stack the Congress against them. They need paths to flourish.
So from the south side of Chicago I call this what it is: a nice sounding bill that can cause ugly damage.
Let us not destroy the schools that teach integrity, character and Christ -like service. Let us not suffocate the pipeline of hope that flows from classrooms to communities in this country.

Christian colleges are not an elite ivory towers. They are lighthouses in some of the darkest corners of our culture.
And in a time of moral confusion and public chaos, we can think better before we sniff the lights.
