The cynical Republican approach to election results is on full display in Virginia.
After voters supported redrawing the state’s congressional map to counter Donald Trump’s attempts to rig the 2026 midterm elections, Republicans immediately went to court and found a conservative judge in the state who dismissed the election and refused to certify the results.
Virginia AG Jay Jones vowed to appeal the ruling: “My office will immediately appeal to the Court of Appeals. As I said last night, Virginia voters have spoken, and an activist judge should not have veto power over the People’s vote. We look forward to defending the outcome of last night’s election in court.”
It is a dangerous game and terrible for democracy if any party tries to invalidate the elections and the will of the voters.
The Republican Party under Trump is invalidating every election they lose.
While the conservative media is in an uproar over the ruling blocking redistricting, there appears to be little or no concern among Democrats who expect the state Supreme Court to uphold the will of the voters.
It is also expected that the case will be resolved fairly quickly. The Republicans won’t be able to keep this up for months as time runs out before the midterm elections.
What is striking is that Republican contempt for democracy when they lose seems limitless.
