Because Republicans in the House of Representatives refuse to do any work, Speaker Mike Johnson has created a huge problem for himself and his party.
The Senate’s deal to pass four of the five funding bills but leave out the Department of Homeland Security, while giving DHS only two weeks of CR, has created a problem for Johnson.
Because the Senate changed the process after the House approved DHS funding, the two-week CR must go back to the House.
Because votes on the rules have become political landmines for Republican leadership in the House of Representatives, Johnson must find a way to pass the DHS continuing resolution without giving members of his own conference the opportunity to overturn it.
Republicans in the House of Representatives are talking and trying to figure out what to do.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS are currently in discussions.
All leaders said members should come to Washington because of the tight margins. Margins are only getting tighter. Five of the six spending bills will return to the House of Representatives untouched, Johnson said. (They were bipartisan, bicameral deals, so this was expected). JOHNSON also said he hopes to pass the five bills/DHS CR on Monday.
There’s just one small problem. Johnson does not have the votes to implement them himself.
