To say that most of Congress is very unhappy with Trump invading another country and deposing its leader without congressional approval would be an understatement.
The White House has failed to identify any legal authority it possessed to justify its actions in Venezuela.
Instead, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has claimed that the administration was involved in a law enforcement action that did not require congressional approval.
Rubio said on ABC’s This Week:
It wasn’t necessary because this wasn’t an invasion. We have not occupied a province. This was an arrest operation. This was a law enforcement operation. He was arrested on the spot in Venezuela by FBI agents, as red as right, and removed from the country.
Have you – I encourage everyone – I know it’s Sunday, people are busy, but I – you know, the charges are now public. People should read this complaint. They should read this complaint. They should read about what this man did for fifteen years – the last fifteen years of his life against the United States. Him and his wife. He was arrested.
This justification was baseless gibberish because the army had invaded another country.
The good news is that something can be done about it.
