The presumed successor to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is currently in Russia, a report said on Saturday.
Four sources familiar with the movements of Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez confirmed her location to Reuters, although the news agency quoted The Russian Foreign Ministry claimed the report was ‘fake’.
Earlier in the day, Rodriguez demanded in audio played on Venezuelan state television that the US provide “proof of life” for Maduro and his wife after President Donald Trump said the couple had been captured during a US military operation.
“We demand that President Donald Trump’s administration immediately provide proof that President Maduro and the First Lady are alive,” Rodriguez said, according to Reuters.

Trump later shared with Truth Social a photo of Maduro being held down, blindfolded and holding a water bottle while wearing gray sweatpants and a sweatshirt aboard the USS Iwo Jima. Trump said he would be taken to New York later.
Maduro previously served as vice president of Venezuela before coming to power in 2013 after the death of then-leader Hugo Chávez.
Jorge Rodriguez, Delcy’s brother and head of the Venezuelan National Assembly, remains in Caracas, three sources said told Reuters.
When asked what Venezuela’s future holds now that Maduro is no longer in the country, Trump said in an interview on “Fox & Friends Weekend” that “we’re making that decision now.”

Trump later confirmed at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, that the US would administer Venezuela on a temporary basis.
Maduro’s successors are likely to be the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner and opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González. an expert said Saturday.
