It didn’t take long for Republicans to start lining up House will force a vote to extend increased Obamacare subsidies for two years.
One of the first House Republicans to line up to sign the discharge petition was Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who posted at X:
Tonight, I signed two resignation petitions: Representative Fitzpatrick’s health care petition and Representative Luna’s stock trading petition. At this point, I am considering signing any motion to dismiss – whether I support the bill or not. As a duly elected Member of Congress, I believe that my colleagues should have the opportunity to bring legislation to a vote. Every member deserves the right to represent their district and receive a recorded vote on their bill. This is a result of House leadership preventing members from governing.
Greene supports extending the subsidies, but her post made it very clear that her signature on discharge requests is also an act of rebellion against Johnson and Trump, who have strangled the House of Representatives and prevented legislation from being brought to the floor for a vote.
For other Republicans in the House of Representatives who are not leaving Congress after the holidays, this is squarely about extending subsidies.
Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News also posted on X:
A row of lawmakers are currently signing off on Fitzpatrick’s resignation. Golden. Lawler. Suozzi.
Where it starts to get interesting is what House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said when asked about the petition.
