Ford unveiled its new global headquarters during a grand opening ceremony this weekend.
The new 2.1 million-square-foot building in Dearborn, Michigan, which is twice the size of the automaker’s Glass House headquarters that opened in 1956, is intended to bring together employees from the company’s engineering, design and technology teams in one location. Construction of the building is expected to be completed in 2027.
“This campus and this exciting new global headquarters are more than just places to work,” Ford CEO Jim Farley said during Sunday’s ceremony. “They represent where we come together to shape the future and make our mark on the world. It’s an investment in the most important asset we have at Ford: each of us.”

The new headquarters features a main showroom with 10 floor-level turntables and “hidden” side walls that provide access to more showrooms, allowing leaders to conduct comprehensive product reviews, according to Ford. A central oculus lamp is designed to mimic natural light.

The building is part of a larger campus that will be named after the current headquarters, the Henry Ford II World Center. Henry Ford II was the grandson of founder Henry Ford and served as CEO from 1945 to 1979. Upon completion, Ford says 14,000 employees will be within a 15-minute walk of the building.
