President Donald Trump announced a move Friday to lift tariffs on certain internationally produced goods through an executive order.
The rollback of tariffs will apply to a number of goods, including coffee, bananas and beef, among others.
“The millions of dollars the federal government collected in additional tariffs on these products resulted in higher prices for businesses and families,” said Neil Bradley, Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “The president’s actions will help reduce costs for Americans.”

In May, the chamber sent the Trump administration a letter proposing tariff cuts.
The new change came into effect on Thursday.
The White House recently announced several trade deals with South and Central American countries that could lead to this reduced rates on certain goods. The countries involved in the agreements are Ecuador, Guatemala, El Salvador and Argentina.

Under the deals, reciprocal tariffs will remain in place, but lower tariffs would apply to certain items, such as items that cannot be produced in the U.S., including coffee, bananas and cocoa, senior administration officials said.
The Trump administration said El Salvador has pledged to address non-tariff barriers, “including by streamlining regulatory requirements and approvals for U.S. exports.”

In addition, Argentina has agreed to provide “preferential market access” to U.S. goods such as medicines, chemicals, technology and more. In addition, Guatemala has committed to refrain from “imposing taxes on digital services or other measures that discriminate against U.S. digital services or U.S. products distributed digitally.”
