As I put fried chickpeas into my mouth with my hands at dinner on St. Mark’s Place on Sunday night, my friend Inez joked, “It’s already Mamdani’s New York.” Unfortunately for those who oppose communism, she is probably right.
Inez is so conservative she makes me look like Noam Chomsky, and she is a leading thinker and writer in the movement. Still, she told me, “I don’t know who I’m going to vote for, maybe Sliwa, maybe Cuomo, even now.”
She’s not alone. In recent days I’ve been hearing this in the red and purple areas of New York, like Staten Island and Bay Ridge conservative voters Tell me that independent mayoral candidate again and again Andreas Cuomo has done nothing to earn their vote.
‘What? Should I vote for Andrew, crazy Cuomo?” an old-timer in St George, Staten Island, said to me, and I understood his point. He may not like democratic socialist Zohran Mamdanibut he has hated Cuomo for over a decade.

Sherry told me at a bagel shop in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn Cuomo and Mamdani“What’s the difference?”
In their own New York way, these voters are begging Cuomo to give them a reason to vote for him, for his COVID authoritarianism, his ignominious resignation as governor, his invention of cashless bail and his statement that they “have no place in New York.”
But Andrew, crazy Cuomo, just can’t bring himself to do it, to give them even the slightest reason to choose him over Curtis Sliwa, who they not only like, but have probably met.
DAVID MARCUS: 5 THINGS NEW YORK REPUBLICANS NEED TO HEAR FROM ANDREW CUOMO
Right now, Cuomo could give these voters he desperately needs a reason to vote for him. For example, he could support Republican Maud Maron in her race against the vile Alvin Bragg for the Manhattan district attorney.
As it stands now, you have to assume that Cuomo, who considers himself the “real Democrat” in the race, will support Bragg – whose policies have been an invitation to lawlessness and disorder. Frankly, if Cuomo endorses Bragg, that’s disqualifying for many right-wing voters.

Cuomo could also promise to fight to end New York shrine city status. Current mayor, and honestly not a bad one, Eric Adams was rejected by Biden’s Justice Department for daring to criticize Grandpa Joe’s open border policy. Is Cuomo against them too?
CUOMO GETS RECOMMENDED AND RISES IN THE POLLS AS COMEBACK CAMPAIGN NEARS THE FINISH LINES
By simply promising that New York City will cooperate with — rather than hinder — the federal government’s ability to detain and deport illegal immigrants, Cuomo could raise some eyebrows among New York conservatives and secure some votes.
The clock is running out for Andrew Cuomo. He actually has until Tuesday morning to make something happen – to shake things up, to convince Inez he’s worth voting for.
Columnist and ex-Brooklynite Karol Markowicz recently put it well when she said, “Cuomo needs to humble himself.” It’s not just that conservative New Yorkers haven’t forgiven him for his progressive misdeeds as governor, it’s also that he’s not even asking for forgiveness.

In the final hours, red voters in Gotham are begging Andrew Cuomo, please, please, please – give me something, anything – to make me think you’ll be a good mayor.
I fear that if Cuomo doesn’t follow this advice and embrace New Yorkers on the right, he won’t just lose on Tuesday — he will be ashamed. I’m not one for predictions, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he finished third.

This is a five-alarm fire for Cuomo’s campaign and for the future of the city. He lost his primary and is now Republicans ask to form a coalition with him – but he offers nothing, not even a promise to end cashless bail.
It’s now or never André. Please give conservative voters what they need.
